Hello Sons & Daughters of “Fair Dillard”

The Dillard University National Alumni Association is excited about the launch of our new website (www.dunaa.org) and in addition to the website our 1st official DUNAA NEWS BLOG.

We plan to update all of our members, supporters & friends on news concerning Dillard University, the DU National Alumni Association, our local chapters, alumni accomplishments, and much more.  Please feel free to become active and join a national committee. We are looking for more alumni to join our ranks as we “grow with the oaks and not away from them”.

DUNAA was established on June 24, 1934. DUNAA is an independent , autonomous organization and all funds collected are a vital source of support for our work in helping develop alumni chapters across the nation, assisting the university in recruiting students, recognizing and rewarding distinguished alumni, raising scholarship funds for current Dillard students, giving to the UNCF and supporting various university initiatives.  Our mission is endless.  Join & become active in DUNAA today!!!

Blue & White Alumni Awards Luncheon

Blue & White Alumni Awards

Homecoming is almost here and the Dillard University National Alumni Association is preparing to honor several of our most exemplary alumni at our Blue & White Alumni Awards Luncheon.  Mr. James Alford t,he 1st Vice President of DUNAA and event chair, stated, “This awards luncheon is not only important to the advancement of Dillard students but it is equally important to the future progress of our alumni association – DUNAA.  We implore upon you the great responsibility to support this more than worthy cause and join us as we celebrate Dillard’s best.”

The Blue & White Alumni Awards Luncheon is being held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 in Kearny Hall at 12:30pm. All proceeds for this event will help support the DUNAA Endowed Scholarship Fund, from which deserving Dillard University students are awarded each year.

Tickets are $40.00 and are on sale now at the Dillard University cashier’s window, or you can buy them online through our secured server by clicking here. Alumni asked to meet the new president of Dillard University personally and Dr. Walter Kimbrough is delivering with his new Bleu Pride Rising Alumni Tour.

Dr. Kimbrough will visit different cities across the country and talk to alumni of Dillard University directly.  We will release future information and cities as announced from the Dillard University Office of Alumni Relations.

The Dillard University National Alumni Association (DUNAA) would like to extend our congratulations to our School of Nursing for 70 years of nursing education and excellence.

Nursing graduates from Dillard University have excelled in every area of pursuit and are noted for significant achievements including creating and leading nursing programs at other institutions.

This year, DUNAA will honor several nursing graduates and alumni in other fields at the Blue & White Awards Luncheon on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 12:30pm in Kearny Hall.

Additionally, the Dillard University Nursing School & the Dillard University Professional Organization of Nursing (DUPON) will host a Nursing Gala following Founders’ Day activities Sunday, November 11, 2012.

Two Dillard graduates will be honored at the 2013 UNCF National Alumni Council Convention in Atlanta, Georgia this upcoming February.  The National President of the DU National Alumni Association(DUNAA) Mrs. Pamela Francois stated “It is my pleasure to announce the selection of Dillard University & the Dillard University National Alumni Association’s recipients of the 2013 UNCF National Alumni Council’s Outstanding Alumnus /Hall of Honor Award, Mr. Mark Tillman & Outstanding Young Alumnus, Ms. Tomaseena Auzenne.”

As an active member of the UNCF National Alumni Council, the Dillard University National Alumni Association (along with fellow HBCU’s) is provided the opportunity each year to identify two outstanding alumni for recognition.

Mark Tillman, a 1985 graduate has been employed for over 20 years with the Hewlett Packard Company and was recently elected National President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He’s also served on the national board of Alpha Phi Alpha as the Immediate Past Mid-Western Regional Vice President. Mark is currently assisting the association in reorganizing its Detroit Chapter and remains a constant advocate for Dillard University.

Tomaseena Auzenne is a 2007 graduate of Dillard University. She’s the owner/operator of the graphic design company, Trace Park Design and has committed her services to the alumni association in the designing the organization’s seal, logo, and new website.

Dillard University’s President Dr. Walter Kimbrough and the Dillard University National Alumni Association President Mrs. Pamela H. Francois are proud of their significant accomplishments and their dedication to “Fair Dillard.” All of DUNAA is excited about our deserving recipients. New York Chapter Annual Blue & White Scholarship Ball

The New York Tri-State Chapter of the Dillard University National Alumni Association hosted their 8th Annual Blue & White Scholarship Ball in early October. The event serves not only as the premier social event for Dillard University alumni living in the New York area but as a major vehicle to raise funds for the Chapter’s Scholarship campain which provides scholarships to local students attending Dillard University.

Chapter members and guest dined on New Orleans cuisine and held an authentic New Orleans second line.

The event was also highlighted by an official program in which the chapter honored; Distinguished Alumna of the Year – Mary Ruth Littlepage ’48 the Chapter’s Financial Secretary, and Outstanding Alumna of the Year- Joyce Morisette-Merchant ’73 the Chapter immediate past Blue & White Scholarship Ball Chairperson, as well as a Community Service of the Year Awardee- Sonia D. Nelson who happens to be a nusre!!!  How proper as Dillard University celebrates its 70th  Nursing Anniversary.

The New York chapter president Phyllis Ball and the event chair presided over the program.

DUNAA’s 1st Vice President and Financial Secretary were in attendance, Mr. James Alfred & Mr. LilCharles Ladd. Mr. Alford brought greetingson behalf of the national association.  Everyone who attended had a splendid time.

2012 Revius Ortique Lecturer Announced

Dillard University has announced Michelle Alexander, a bestselling author and civil rights activist, as the lecturer for the 2012 Revius O. Ortique Lecture on Law and Society.

Justice Revius O. Ortique, Jr was a dedicated alumnus of Dillard University and the 1st African American Justice seated on the Louisiana Supreme Court. He also served for many years on the Dillard University Board of Trustees.

The lecture will be on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 7pm in the Professional Schools Building Georges Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Dillard Alumna Ariel Mitchell Signs With the Harlem Globetrotters

Ariel Mitchell is a new Harlem Globetrotters!!!

Ariel Mitchell, a Dillard alum from the Class of 2012 and a native of Louisiana, has signed with the legendary Harlem Globetrotters. She is one of only 11 women to ever to play for the basketball team, and the first to come out of a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) school. The Dillard University Athletics Department honored her at a formal announcement and press conference on Friday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. in the Dent Hall gymnasium on Dillard’s campus.

Ariel “Mighty” Mitchell, as she will be known with the Globetrotters, hails from St James, La. The 5’7” shooting guard led the Dillard Lady Bleu Devils basketball team for four years, scoring over 1,000 points and earning All-Conference honors in her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She averaged 13.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in public health.

In 2013, the Globetrotters will launch its “You Write the Rules” World Tour, playing over 250 games across the U.S., Canada, France, the Dominican Republic, the United Arab Emirates, and more.
