The Wiztells the story of Dorothy, a fourteen year old girl from Kansas and her journey to the city of Oz. After being caught in a tornado Dorothy lands in Munchkin Land where she celebrates the death of the Wicked Witch of the East, Evamene. Dorothy departs from the land of the munchkins with a live yellow brick road. On her way to Emerald city she meets a hip Scarecrow, an uptight Tinman, and a cowardly Lion. Together they seek help from the Great Wiz.

On their journey then encounter the deadly poppy field, a rescuing mice squad, and an arrogant Gate Keeper. They meet with the magical Wizard, who agrees to grant all their wishes as a package deal if they knock off Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy and her friends are captured by the menacing winged monkeys. Only when the witch is at her meanest is Dorothy able to defeat her by dousing her with water. Using false magic the Wiz grants the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Lion of their brains, heart, and courage but Dorothy is left in Emerald City when the Wiz launches his hot air balloon before she boards. The Good Witch Glinda appears and informs her that all she has to do is click her heels together three times to return home.
